Accidental Producer seeks ideas for further development
By the end of Day 2 of D&D, this conversation had evolved into [we're all accidental producers with lots of experience] what gaps in learning do we want to fill, some ideas of how:
TIME: Freelancer movement / puppet / props and stage managers wanted producers to learn more about not engaging them last minute. With longer lead in times, folk can offer better value for money. Freelancers appreciate being paid an hourly rate for a meeting well in advance, where they can understand the project and offer you guidance around what they can offer. Some freelancers e.g. movement directors can offer a minimum and maximum hours they can offer in a rehearsal, they understand that we don't know exactly what's needed until they're in the room. Stage managers can source and make props for cheaper with a longer lead in time. ADVICE TO PRODUCERS: seek meetings early on in the process.
Know which side of producing floats your boat, you migth have to do both but know and fill in the gaps. Are you a Creative / Process Producer or a Line / Logistics Producer?
