Community at the heart of every piece of work and rethinking what that means.

Community doesn’t mean the people who don’t do this work for a living.

Community is the person who is there, whatever their role.

We are all community members in the creation of an art.

Community is the person who is there

- talked to.

- even the director, even the manager of the building you’re in is a member of your community.

Community embedded in all of the work - not just as future audiences. every conversation you have about your project is community participation.

Separate actual commmunity involvement from the ACE tickbox/fundwer idea of what participation counts as.

Democratising creativity in such a way as unfolding a process from its boxes and categories and bringing people into every stage of a creation’s birth,

whether that is a momentary discovery of the beauty in a patch of marble on the wall between 2 people or a longer series of moments that happen to result in something that at certain moments may or may not be witnessed by any number of people all at once.

The power of 2 feet

+

The right ones are the ones where your 4 (or fewer) feet find themselves

Holding an audience’s hand and revealing art with them, unfolding together, rather than shouting from a megaphone and hoping someone will come to listen.

Seve communities with your art abilities.

Ask how you might thrive together rather than trying to squeeze them to fit into your vision

This session, ironically was a solo session by Edalia on the final day, overwhelmed by the noise of the main space and arriving spontaneously rather than being announced, but it was the culmination of several conversations with different people throughout the weekend. This process is kind of the essence of the conclusions of the session. The group of spoke about this weren’t just the official people in the room. but this was a session spread out throughout the 3 days through several separate interactions.
