The Hours

Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts’s The Hours, adapted from Michael Cunningham’s acclaimed novel returns to the Met in 2024. Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway and made a household name by the Oscar-winning 2002 film, the powerful story follows three women from different eras who each grapple with their inner demons and societial roles. Kelli O’Hara and Joyce DiDonato join Renée Fleming return as the opera’s trio of heroines in Phelim McDermott’s ‘brilliant’ staging (Opera Wire)

Perfect Show For Rachel

Rachel is a theatre-loving, enigmatic 33 year-old who loves Kylie Minogue, people falling over and heckling from the front row. She is a learning disabled care-home resident, and sister to Flo, Zoo Co’s artistic director. Perfect Show for Rachel was developed with Rachel, to create her ‘perfect show’ on her own terms. It explores who defines artistic taste, and questions who that currently excludes.

Friday 24 May - Sunday 9 June 2024, The Barbican

Summer Workshops

Our annual summer workshops are back. In this, our second year, we want to focus on PLACE as both a theme and an embodied experience. Come and join us on this practical, imaginal and profound journey of staying put, of reconnecting to each other and our surroundings, and of re-finding who we are, here and now.

Monday 15 - Friday 26 July 2024

My Neighbour Totoro

Winner of six Olivier Awards and five WhatsOnStage Awards, this “utterly beguiling” (The Stage) and “jaw-dropping” (Metro) staging of the celebrated 1988 animated feature film is brought to you by the Royal Shakespeare Company and Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi in collaboration with Nippon TV and Improbable.

Outside The Frame

Who picks the subject? Who creates the frame? Who’s in and who’s out?

Outside The Frame delves into hidden histories and salacious stories through improvisation, autobiographical stories, spoken word, devising, movement, song and puppetry.

Outside The Frame began as a digital laboratory and is now in development as a new show led by Angela Clerkin and Adedamola Bajomo.

BambinO

An operatic adventure for 6 to 18 month olds.

This unique and colourful work for infants aged 6 to 18 months reinvents operatic language and traditions for children at an age when their minds are wide open to new sounds, images and experiences. Babies are free to explore during the performance, interacting with singers, musicians and each other. We hope adults might find new ways of enjoying music too – through the ears of their bambini!

Currently touring in LA with LA Opera and in the UK with Scottish Opera

Associate-led Projects

Improbable are currently supporting the following projects run by associates and friends of the company.

Mothers Who Make

Mothers Who Make is a growing international movement for women and non-binary parents who care about creating, and create whilst caring. Through a range of peer support meetings, artistic events and innovative projects we aim to support women and non-binary people to sustain their creative identities whilst also holding caring roles.

You can find our more about their programme, upcoming events and how to support the initiative on their website.

Through the Door

A series of improvisation workshops for women and non-binary folk, exploring improvisation in theatre, comedy, storytelling, devising, movement and making. We experiment with being heroes and villains and put our own stories centre stage. Oh, and practice being confident and generous as we fuck up. It’s time to find out what happens when we step through the door…

Through the Door is run by Angela Clerkin (Clerkinworks).

You can find out more on the Clerkinworks website.
