Permission Improbable

Imagining an improvisation landscape created by women.

Improvisation has historically been a male-dominated field. Whilst there are more women improvising today, they do so in a male-created landscape. Led by our Associate Director Matilda Leyser, Permission Improbable asks: what would an improvisation culture created by women look like?

Permission Improbable started with an R&D period, a public (women-only) workshop in 2013, six public performances at BAC in November 2014 (including two with women-only audiences) and a regular improvisation practice group that met monthly at Omnibus Theatre. We are continuing to plan and develop future manifestations of this project, including further workshops and performances. A spiritual successor to Permission Improbable called Through the Door is currently being run by Angela Clerkin (an Improbable Associate Artist and founder of Clerkinworks), supported by Improbable. You can find out more about Through the Door on Angela’s website. You can also find out more about the work she is doing with us on the related Impro Digi Lab project here.
