Devoted & Disgruntled

An ongoing nationwide conversation about theatre and the performing arts

Since 2006, Improbable has been using a process called Open Space Technology to facilitate gatherings for the performing arts sector where everyone’s voice can be heard and no topic is censored. There are no keynote speakers and no fixed agenda — you decide what gets worked on at each event. If we’re going to change the world for the better, we all need time and space to collaborate on an equal footing. Devoted & Disgruntled (D&D) is that time and space.

To date, we’ve run over 200 D&D meetings, including a big “flagship” event every year. After each event, we receive reports from participants about what happened in their sessions. This means we have collected a vast archive of information about (almost) every issue that’s affected the performing arts over the past 15 years.

This year’s annual unconventional conference took place at The Warehouse in Holbeck, Leeds from 16th - 18th March 2024, in partnership with Slung Low and supported by Leeds Playhouse. If you would like to read the reports from this year’s event, you can do so here.
