An Artists Guide to working with Local Authorities

A discussion was held around what pre-existing knowledge and experiences artists had of working with local authorities in the UK. It was identified that for many artists there was a general lack of understanding about how local authorities are run and what their arts/culture provision is, particularly given it's lack of statutory status. Advice was shared on how best to engage with local authority officers and services and specific methods of framing relationships so they benefit the artists. It was agreed there was a genuine need for better knowledge sharing in this area and that an illustrated guide would be helpful. RCTCBC Arts Officer Jesse Briton (jesse.briton@rctcbc.gov.uk) agreed to pursue commissioning a guide to be share publicly on completion.
