Returning to Arts Practice after a long break

Strange to return after x number of years.

Artists not making work anymore.

Artists have to have an alternative career, hard to keep going.

Does inspiration change?

Sitting at home

Process of theatre has become inaccessible

I taught - so I was still involved, but not performing

Unable to do it for a while (eg: 60 years) and then coming back

Getting back on the horse

Returning with fresh perspectives

Is artist for life, not just for Christmas

Reframing experience rather than giving up

Insuring keeping yourself busy

Working professionally or for personal satisfaction

Justifying yourself to others (professionally or personally)

Arts careers aren't linear

Researching and dreaming is work

We used to be blame ourselves for burnout, implication is that now we've learnt not to blame ourselves

The infrastructure is completely different now (the whole profession of theatre)

Money.

Doing things for nothing.

Self-esteem.

An actor at the end of a performance, just said, in the final performance of the run, said I have completely forgotten every word of my part. The implication is that he had to do that in order to go on to the next job.
